Sad day for the world of literature: Maurice Sendak has passed away at age 83. Hilariously irreverent until the end, Sendak’s last public appearance was on The Colbert Report, where he gave advice to Colbert on his new children’s book:

Sad news—Maurice Sendak, author of the beloved children’s picture book Where the Wild Things Are, has passed away at the age of 83. He died of complications related to a recent stroke.
